Valorization of Lyophilized Olive Mill Wastewater: Chemical and Biochemical Approaches

چکیده
Lipid composition and antioxidant activity have been carried out in order to valorize the of olive mill wastewater extracts with different solvents (supercritical carbon dioxide, n-hexane, dichloromethane ethanol). The was evaluated using ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) tests. total phenolics flavonoid contents were, also, determined. chemical extracted oil established, respectively, by gas chromatography–flame ionization detector high-performance liquid chromatography methods. results showed that oleic acid equivalent number forty-eight were major compounds analyzed oils. Residual from Sousse region displayed highest radical-scavenging (31.10 ± 0.10 μg/mL). analysis OMWs n-hexane fraction contained an abundance (61.62%) (53.14%). best determined for ethanol (14.5 final a significant difference variations polar apolar components. Moreover, high percentages Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) 64% largest amount flavonoids (160.30 1.70 mg EQ/g DM).

Physico-Chemical and Biological Treatment of Olive Mill Wastewater by Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) Reactors
The removal performance of total poly phenols and orthodiphenols (o-diphenols) content in olive mill waste (OMW) was investigated with a three stages cross flow laboratory scale rotating biological contactor (RBC) in the present study. Due to high COD and other pollutant in the original OMW, physico-chemical treatment was effected for COD and other pollutant reduction prior to biological tr...
متن کاملAntimicrobial Activity of Olive Mill Waters (Alpechin) and Biotransformed Mill Wastewater Waste- Olive Oil
Olive oil extraction produces a great volume of residue. These olive mill wastes are known as alpechin. This wastewater is a powerful pollutant, resistant to degradation and presents a severe environmental problem related to its high organic content made up largely of simple phenolic compounds, that have been described as being both antimicrobial and phytotoxic. This paper reviews briefly the a...
متن کاملTreatment of olive mill wastewater by a combined process: fenton's reagent and chemical coagulation.
Olive mill wastewater (OMW) was exposed to Fenton treatment and subjected to post Fenton coagulation/flocculation using lime. Several tests were performed for different R = H2O2/COD ratios, from 0.25 to 3.0, promoting the gradual addition of H2O2 and Fe2+, with the original condition of a pH = 3.5 and maintaining a constant relationship H2O2/Fe2+ = 15. A maximum reduction of COD of 96.8% was ob...
متن کاملOlive Mill Wastewater in Turkey and some Solution Alternatives
Olive, as a fruit, cannot be consumed directly due to the oleuropein substance it contains and needs to be processed into either table olives or olive oil through various production systems. Th e process of olive oil extraction results in olive oil as the main product, and two by-products, with olive pomace being one and brown-coloured Olive Mill Wastewater (OMWW) as the other. OMWW has no dire...
متن کاملPhotochemical UV/TiO2 treatment of olive mill wastewater (OMW).
Olive mill wastewater (OMW) was treated by photocatalysis using TiO2 under UV irradiation on the laboratory scale. The chemical oxygen demand, the coloration at 330nm, and the level of phenols all showed decreases which, after a 24-h treatment, reached 22%, 57% and 94%, respectively. The differences between these three values indicate the persistence of colourless, non-phenolic compounds. Appli...
